maa siddhidatri Katha

In the beginning of creation there was a deep void filled with darkness and there was no sign of life. Universe was created by Mata Khushmanda with the radiance of her energies. It is believed that Maa Khushmanda created The Trimurti- Lord Brahma with the power of creation, Lord Vishnu with the power of sustenance and Lord Shiva with the power of destruction. After creation Lord Shiva asked Mata to bestow him with Siddhis (supernatural abilities).

Maa Khushmanda created Maa Siddhidatri with the ability to give these Siddhis. Maa Siddhidatri provided Lord Shiva with 18 kinds of Siddhi (8 primary forms of perfection (Ashta Siddhi) alongwith 10 secondary form of supernatural powers). Lord Brahma required a man and a woman for creation for which he prayed for the help of Maa Siddhidatri. Maa Siddhidatri then transformed Lord Shiva’s half body into women. Lord Shiva is therefore also called as Ardhanarishwar (Ardh-half, Nari-women, Ishwar-Lord Shiva). Lord Brahma was thus able to create human beings alongwith rest of the universe.
