kalratri mata

On the seventh day of Navratri, Kalratri Mata, the fiercest form of Maa Durga is worshiped. According to Markandeya Purana, Kalratri Mata is the slayer of innumerable demons including Chand-Mund and Raktabeej. Maa Kalratri is also known as Kali, Mahakali, Mahamaya, Bhadrakali, Bhairavi, Rudrani, Chamunda, Chandi, Raudri and Dhumorna Devi. The Goddess was named Chamunda when she slaughtered demons Chand and Mund. Maa Kalratri originated from the anger of Mata Durga. With the arrival of Goddess in this form all the demons, ghosts, vampires and negative energies are destroyed. In Durga Saptashati it is written that when the Goddess started the creation of this universe and before the manifestation of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, the Goddess created three Maha Devi. Sarveshwari Mahalakshmi, seeing the universe full of dark and tamasic (Dark) qualities, created a Devi with Tamsik (dark) form named Kalratri Mata.

Appearance of maa kalratri

The appearance of Maa Kalratri is fierce and she has an enraged form. Her eyebrows are stretched (raised). Her body colour is very dark like dense darkness. Scalp hairs are scattered. There is a garland that sparkles like a lightning in the neck. Maa Kalratri has three eyes. These three eyes are round and bloodshot. The fiery flames continue to come out of her nose. Her vehicle is a donkey. Maa Kalratri has a bowl in her hand. This form of the Maa Kalratri is a symbol of the slaughter of Raktabeej. Because when demon named Raktabeej was killed, Maa Kalratri collected in a vessel his blood and drank it.

The form of Maa Kalratri is very macabre (vikaraal). She has a third eye on her forehead like Lord Shiva. The third eye is a symbol of our inner self. It simply means that when we walk on the path of devotion and get closer to God, then the third eye, the inner being, shows us the right path. When such a situation occurs with a seeker, then it should be understood that one is towards the final stage of devotion, from where one can attain Siddhi.

kalratri mata Katha

According to the legend, it is said that the demons Shumbha-Nishumbha and Raktabeej had created a chaos in the three worlds. Concerned about this, all the Devtas went to Lord Shiva and prayed for protection. Lord Shiva directed the towards the worship of Mata Parvati. By obeying Lord Shiva, Mata Parvati took the form of Maa Durga and killed Shumbha-Nishumbha. But as soon as Maa Durga killed the demon Raktabeej, his blood spilled from his body produced millions of Raktabeej demons. Seeing this, Durga ji created Kalratri Mata with her glory. To end Raktabeej, Maa Kalratri slayed the demon Raktabeej and the blood coming out of his body was filled by Kalratri Mata in her mouth before it could fall to the ground. In this way, Kalratri Mata ended the atrocities of Raktabeej.
